Yiannis Soldatos on Bionian: The First Health Sciences Cluster in SEE
Yiannis Soldatos, Advisor in Business Development of the BIONIAN cluster and professor at Athens Information Technology, gave us an overview of the purpose, activities and vision of the new Health Sciences Cluster. Beyond the all-round support to businesses, universities, hospitals, research institutes and the academia, we talk about the cluster’s innovation activities which are focusing on Clinical Investigation (CI), a high-growth area for the region, and Environmental Health Sciences (EHS). Dr. Soldatos has had a very active role in a number of research projects, which were co-funded by the EU in the scope of the ACTS, ESPRIT and IST frameworks. Since 01/01/2008 he serves as the Technical Director of the HERMES (FP7-216709) project (on pervasive computing for ageing well), and Technical Manager of the ASPIRE (FP7-215417) integrated project (on configurable RFID middleware)

The eHealth Forum 2014 brought together a High-Level eHealth Experts’ Conference on European Priorities, the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP AHA) – incorporating events and an exhibition, a meeting of the eHealth Network, the 4th EU-US eHealth Marketplace & Cooperation Assembly, and much more. The Forum demonstrated how eHealth can further develop existing partnerships to enhance and safeguard access to care and quality of life. It showcased how ICT and innovation on a large scale in health and care systems can contribute to sustainability, economic growth and job opportunities during challenging times.
